Hoover is an American-based author born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, on December 11, 1979, to Vannoy Fite and Eddie Fennell. She was born and raised in Saltillo, Texas, United States of America, and graduated from Saltillo High School in 1998. In 2000, she married Heath Hoover, with whom she had three boys. Hoover earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Texas A&M-Commerce. Before becoming an author, she worked in different social work and teaching positions.

Hoover started writing Slammed, her first book, in November 2011 with no intention of publishing it. She was inspired by a line from a famous novel writer called (the Avett Brothers)’ song, entitled “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise,” “decide what to be and go be it.” She inserted the lyrics throughout the plot. Slammed was self-published by Hoover in January 2012. She claims she released the work so her mother, who had just purchased an Amazon Kindle, could read it. Point of Retreat, the sequel, was released in February 2012.
In a few months, Slammed was reviewed and awarded five stars by book blogger Maryse Black, and sales of Hoover’s first two novels skyrocketed. In August of that year, Slammed and Point of Retreat were eighth and eighth, respectively, on the New York Times Best Seller list. On August 10, 2012, Atria Books acquired and reprinted the books. This Girl, the third book in the series, was released in April 2013. With the success of Slammed, Hoover left her position in social work to pursue a career as a full-time writer.
