Chief and residents of Akyem Abuakwa, Kotoku and Bosome, all in the Eastern Region, have served notice of a huge demonstration against the Flag Bearer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama.
The planned demonstration is expected to come off tomorrow, September 8.
Protesters through a notice sighted by this news portal have been directed to gather at Asamankese Lorry Park.
The flag Bearer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress some few days ago endorsed a Facebook post by Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, which was captured as: Agyapa Royalties fraud is the last straw: The Akyem Sakawa boys and Grandpas must go.
This post has gotten many people talking about it as some described the post by Mr. Mahama as Ethnocentric which does not help in nation building.
The post has been condemned by both President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bwumia and have directed Mr. Mahama to remove the post and apologise to Ghanaians.
However, responding to comments from NPP Flag Bearer after endorsing Mr. Adongo’s post, Mr Mahama said any attempt by the NPP to use ethnic lines to discredit him by accusing him of insulting the people from the Akyem tribe will not wash.
He explained that he never made any comment which sought to disrespect a particular ethnic group as speculated by a group of people but he just shared an article that makes specific mention of some members of Akufo-Addo’s family who were behind a fishy deal to rob the nation.
The announcement about the demonstration gave the following explanation:
“Protest against bigotry comments made against the chiefs and people of Akyem Abuakwa, Bosome and Kotoku by the flagbearer and leader of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama.”
Meanwhile, the NDC has said it will not apologise on behalf of John Mahama for the comment.
