All indications show Chelsea are heading in the right direction under new manager Enzo Maresca. Despite Chelsea spending huge on quality but young players in the transfer market, many pundits doubted if Chelsea could be fourth on the Premier League table after seven matches.
Since losing their opening Premier League game to Manchester City, the Blues are unbeaten in their last six games and are playing quality football. Chelsea boasts of a quality squad depth, which gives Enzo Maresca the luxury to choose from a pool of talent squad, but at the same time, a head as some players who would ordinarily be started in other top teams are wasting on the bench.
A prime example is Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, and Christopher Nkunku, who are limited to small game time, especially in the Premier League.
However, Chelsea Legend Pat Nevin claims it will be worth the reward if Joao Felix and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall get more game time. Joao Felix has started only two games this season, all coming in the Conference League and EFL Cup, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s three games start are in the Conference League and EFL Cup.

What did Pat Nevin say?
The two times Chelsea footballer of the year and writer on Chelsea’s official website Pat Nevin told Metro.co.uk.: “Enzo Maresca has started well. He’s got a more stable-looking squad and style which wasn’t there before.
“At the start of the season, I predicted top four for Chelsea, which not many people went for, but the basics are there now, and they’ve got that quality in the squad.
“I’m a massive fan of Joao Felix. He’s kind of been dismissed a bit by a lot of people, but don’t dismiss him. He needs to get a better run in the first team, perhaps when they need cover for Cole Palmer. There’s no doubt he’ll prove people wrong.
“If you look further around that team, people like Dewsbury-Hall have not even got a game yet and he’s great, a really, super player. He showed that in the Conference League a few weeks back and he surely needs more chances soon.”
Chelsea’s defence has been their weakest link so far this season. They concede easily but are most covered by their attacker, who bags in more goals. Pat Nevin believes Chelsea needs to work on their defence if they want to finish in the top four.
He added: “They’ve got creativity all over the pitch. ‘I don’t think the defence is quite right yet – I think everybody can see that – but the quality of players they’ve got coming in now is incredible.
“I find them entertaining and whether they win or not or get top four, I like to be entertained. Chelsea over the last few decades have been entertaining, there’s never a dull moment and I expect that’s going to carry on this season.”
Chelsea are in for a big test this weekend when they face League leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
