Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana joined Chelsea in the summer of 2022 for £75 million from Leicester City, Making him one of the most expensive defenders in the Premier League.
Despite his big-money move to Stamford Bridge, Fofana has spend most of his time outside the pitch nursing injury. The French international has made only 23 appearances in two years for Chelsea.
Fofana, who is now a crucial member of Chelsea’s squad under new manager Enzo Maresca, has admitted that he had an opportunity to join Olympic Marseille after speaking with the club’s sporting director, Mehdi Benatia.
What did Wesley Fofana say?

The 23-year-old French international told Free Foot: “I had a conversation that really touched me.
“I would be lying if I said I didn’t weigh it up. It was from [Mehdi] Benatia, Marseille’s sporting director.
“It touched me and I think everyone knows why. I thought about it but there you go, the current objective is to succeed at Chelsea, to try and play regularly, and to establish myself at my club.”
Wesley Fofana was born in Marseille but began his football career at Saint-Étienne II and made it to their senior team. The French international is still young and would like to one day play in his hometown.
He added: “OM, we’ll see one day. I still have a contract until 2029 and we’ll see after that. I have never hidden it, [Marseille] is my city, my club, I am an OM supporter.
“We’ll see if I end up being at Marseille in a few years, or if I stay at Chelsea for the rest of my career.”
In other news, Chelsea star Noni Madueke expressed excitement after making his England debut.
Noni Madueke looks refreshed under the new Enzo Maresca and is currently Chelsea’s top scorer with three goals. The 22-year-old was handed his first England National team call by interim manager Lee Carsley for the just-ended international break.

He made his debut on Tuesday evening as a substitute against Finland, assisting Harry Kane for England and his second goal for the night.
After the game, he said: “It was great to make my first appearance for the national team and I am really proud of myself.
“It has been a great week, the boys are great and the staff and players have made me feel welcome. Stonesy [John Stones] has been great with me and Dec [Rice], Jack [Grealish] – it is a great group of lads.”
On his assist to Harry Kane, Madueke added: “I tried to go out there and be direct and cause problems.
“I got an assist for Harry on his 100th appearance – it can’t get much better than that. It is fitting that Harry got both goals. It is his night. It is fun to work with Harry because if you give him the ball in the box he is going to get you an assist.
“‘Now I cannot wait to get back to Chelsea and to keep performing.”’
