Chelsea has won only one game in their last seven matches. They are already out of the FA and Carabao Cups and tenth in the Premier League. The blues were defeated 4-0 in the third round of the FA against Manchester City, thanks to goals from Riyad Mahrez (2), Phil Foden, and Julian Alvarez.
The Blues were trailing three goals in the first half. The players looked disorganized, tired, and needed more motivation. Chelsea fans during the game chanted their former manager Thomas Tuchel’s name as a sign that he was wrongfully sacked and also chanted Roman Abramovich’s name.
There were calls on social media after the game that Todd Boehly should sack Graham Potter as the team’s performance has taken a nosedive. The players’ body language indicates that they have lost faith in Potter’s ball.
However, Graham Potter has insisted that he would do everything to win the Chelsea fans’ trust.
What was said?
Reacting to the away fans chant, Graham Potter said at a Press Conference: “We can’t do anything but do our jobs better and work harder.
“We understand the supporters’ frustration, but our job is to do our job. There are always other opinions, criticism and negativity, but that’s part of the challenge.
“It’s always challenging in the Premier League and it’s always challenging here. I understand their frustration and I understand when you look at results and the team performance today that it is far away from Manchester City.
“That’s clear. We have to focus on the next day, the next match. We play on Thursday and it’s an important game for us.
“We need to stay together as group, support each other, and I’m sure we will get the support of the supporters when we see good performances and results.”
On Chelsea poor run of form in the Premier League, Graham Potter added: “The results in terms of the Premier League, I think we have lost four matches. To Newcastle away, the last game before the World Cup, we had nine players unavailable. We lost 1-0 to Arsenal. We lost on a bad day to Brighton, and we lost to Manchester City. Those are the teams we have lost to.
“But we have also drawn to Manchester United and Brentford so the results in a small space of time aren’t positive. I have said before you can make excuses and look for reasons or you can say it isn’t good enough. Both of those answers are correct.
“So, we have to keep improving, stick together as a football club, because clearly we are suffering as a football club, and it is not nice at all. But that is where we are at the moment.”
Graham Potter is facing enormous pressure, and a poor performance against Fulham on Thursday in the Premier League could see him lose his Job. However, there are reports that Todd Boehly gave his word to Graham Potter that he still be at post if Chelsea fails to qualify for the Champions League.
