Stokes began his acting career with guest appearances on series such as Stranger Things, Daytime Divas, and Tell Me Your Secrets.
He turned down an audition for Outer Banks in February 2019 before reading for Topper and then John B. in April 2019. After the first season premiered on April 15, 2020, critical praise resulted in a rapid renewal for a second season in July.
