Following the October FIFA International break, all sixteen PSL teams will be back in action from this Friday as they face each other in the 2019 Telkom Knockout. Kaizer Chiefs were drawn against tough opponents Cape Town City in the last 16 of this league competition. The match will take place away from home in Cape Town on Saturday, 19 October. “We are looking forward to going back to Cape Town to face Cape Town City. They are a strong side, but we managed to beat them last month in their backyard,” says Chiefs No 6, Kearyn Baccus. Baccus scored his first goal for Chiefs in an Absa Premiership match played at Newlands Stadium. His goal came in the 83rd minute of the game and sealed the three points when Chiefs beat the Citizens 2-1. “I’m relishing the prospect of playing my first cup game in South Africa,” adds Baccus. We would like to win everything on offer this season. We will work hard to achieve this dream.” Another goal scorer in that match against City on 27 August, Daniel Cardoso, says he loves playing in Cape Town because he’s scored a few goals in the Mother City. His goal was in August, an equaliser in the 76th minute after the home team took the lead early in the first half. The defender says he is looking forward to meeting Benni McCarthy’s team and proceeding to the last 8 of the Telkom Knockout competition. Chiefs have won the Telkom Knockout competition a record 13 times. The last win came in 2010 and reached the final 2015. Both Baccus and Cardoso believe that the support the team received at Newlands Stadium in August will be vital when they take to the field on Saturday. “The 12th man is key for any team and we trust that the supporters will purchase their tickets early and get behind us,” adds Cardoso. The medical team has confirmed that a number of players who were out with injury are expected to be available for selection for Saturday’s match. They include George Maluleka, Samir Nurković, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Reeve Frosler. Tickets for the match are available from Ticketpro outlets including Edgars, CNA, Jet stores and Spar Supermarkets at a cost of R60 per tickets. The match will kick off at 15:00 at the Cape Town Stadium.
