Williams’ media career began in 1984 with a cadetship at Brisbane’s The Courier-Mail newspaper. He then relocated to the Melbourne offices of The Australian, where he produced sports stories and editorials before joining the Seven Network in 1988. Williams presented Sportsworld on Seven News in addition to being a sports presenter.
Williams called Matt Ryan’s equestrian double gold for Australia at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
He joined FoxSports in 1996, anchoring NRL On Fox, the Dally M Awards, Super 12 Rugby, Wimbledon, the Winter Olympics, the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, and Fox Sports News. During a scandal, Fox Sports declined to renew his contract in 2001. Williams went on to work as a breakfast announcer on 2HD in Newcastle. Nine Network
From January 2006 to December 2010, Williams was the official sports editor and presenter for the Nine Network’s breakfast show, Today. He also hosted the Nine Network’s coverage of horse racing, swimming, and other athletic events on occasion.
