Career
Pimp C founded the rap group UGK in the late 1980s. He initially released a demo tape named “Underground King” that did not include Bun B. It instead had Pimp C’s pal Mitchell Queen. Bun B and Jalon Jackson formed the P.A.
Militia. Both factions merged to form the group of 4 Black Ministers. Queen and Jackson eventually quit the group, leaving Pimp C and Bun B to revert to UGK. The Underground King tape Pimp C created with Mitchell Queen piqued the interest of Bigtyme Records, a Houston-based indie label. Both then published The Southern Way, an extended play.
Many of the songs on their first album, Too Hard to Swallow, contained too explicit content for the album. Bigtyme Records published an extended play named Banned before the album, which included all of the songs that were too explicit for Too Hard to Swallow.
“Pocket Full of Stones” was the first UGK song to receive wide airplay in the United States of America. In 1994, they released their next album, Super Tight. Their third album, Ridin’ Dirty, reached number two on the R&B charts and fifteen on the Billboard 200 in 1996. Pimp C was sentenced to prison after releasing their fourth studio album, Dirty Money.[8]
