The perpetrator of the shooting is suspected of having been murdered in the first degree.

The Buffalo, New York police department has referred to a former officer who was killed in the shooting rampage on Saturday as a “hero.” The incident took place in Buffalo.

Aaron Salter, a retired officer from the Buffalo Police Department, was shot and killed by Payton Gendron, an 18-year-old college student, while he attempted to save others from being shot by Gendron. Salter was trying to protect others from being shot by Gendron.
