Bitcoin

In 2009, Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency to be launched.. It has since developed from a curiosity into a contentious commodity, an investment, and exchangeable money.

It employs decentralized and community computing power to maintain the integrity and security of a blockchain, a centralized database.

Litecoin

Former Google programmer Charlie Lee announced the creation of the “lite version of Bitcoin” in 2011 via a posting posted on a prominent Bitcoin forum. From its inception, Litecoin was viewed as a counter to Bitcoin’s proclivity toward centralization.

As a result, Litecoin includes many of the Bitcoin features that Lee and other developers thought worked effectively for Bitcoin in its early phases. Other features of Litecoin that the development team believed may be enhanced include as follows.

Market Capitalization

The market capitalizations of the two cryptocurrencies differ. Litecoin had a total worth of $13.7 billion in March 2021, whereas Bitcoin had a value of about $1 trillion.

Bitcoin’s network simply outnumbers other currencies. Bitcoin had a market capitalisation of only $42,000 in July 2010. As a result, its expansion has been genuinely remarkable.

In terms of market capitalization, Ethereum comes closest to Bitcoin, with a market value of roughly $212 billion. As a result, it should come as no surprise that Bitcoin outnumbers Litecoin.

Algorithms

Litecoin’s and Bitcoin’s algorithms are also dissimilar.. Scrypt is used by Litecoin, whereas SHA-256 is used by Bitcoin. The two algorithms have differing implications on how new currencies are generated.

Confirming transactions on both Litecoin and Bitcoin requires a significant amount of computer resources. In general, SHA-256 is a more sophisticated algorithm than Scrypt.

Miners also attempted to mine bitcoins using some of the most complex ways available. Miners opted to employ ASICs, which are hardware devices designed to mine Bitcoins, to do this.

Meanwhile, Scrypt was designed in such a way that it is less vulnerable to ASIC-based mining custom hardware solutions, which is what drew more people to Litecoin. As a result, it appears that Litecoin is becoming more accessible to those who want to become miners.

Distribution

Litecoin and Bitcoin generate different numbers of coins. Bitcoin will never have more than 21 million coins in circulation. In contrast, Litecoin has a maximum supply of 84 million coins.

While this appears to be a benefit at first, the consequences in practice may be minimal because both currencies are divided into virtually microscopic quantities.
