Bill Kazmair was born William Kazmaier to Florence Louise Steinhoff Kazmaier and William Bartholomew Kazmaier. He was welcomed into the world on December 30, 1953, in Burlington, Wisconsin, United States. Per his month and date of birth, he was born under the Capricorn zodiac sign. He is the youngest of four children born to his parents.
Willian is of German ancestry and American nationality. He was raised in the Christian faith. William attended and graduated from Burlington High School (Wisconsin). Career
Powerlifting and Strongman careers
In 1978, Kazmaier won the 275-pound weight class at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Championships in Los Angeles, California, squatting 782 pounds, bench pressing 534 pounds, and deadlifting 804 pounds.
In 1979, at 25, he set a world record with a 622-pound bench press on his route to winning his first IPF World Powerlifting Championship in Dayton, Ohio. Bill’s three best lifts were an 804-pound deadlift for 2291 pounds, a 622-pound bench press, and an 865-pound squat. In 1983, he repeated his achievement by winning the IPF World Championship in November and the National Powerlifting Championships of the United States Powerlifting Federation (USPF) in July.
Despite suffering two serious injuries, he won the IPF World Championship. In November 1981, Kazmaier set a new world record for the deadlift in competition, with 402 kg (886 lb) raw. This made him one of the few lifters in history to hold world records in three powerlifting events simultaneously.
Kazmaier competed in six World’s Strongest Man competitions. In the 1979 World’s Strongest Man competition, he finished third after defeating powerlifting legend Don Reinhoudt in the car lift by deadlifting a 2555-pound car.
He dominated the tournaments in 1980, 1981, and 1982 in the following years, winning all three by a wide margin. Kazmaier was the first to win the WSM title three times and is still one of just two men to do so. Kazmaier won five of 10 events and tied for first in another during his 1980 title run. He placed first in the log lift, engine race, steel bar bend, girl squat lift, final tug of war, and silver dollar deadlift.
Professional wrestling career
In an attempt to expand his skill set, Kazmaier tried out for the Green Bay Packers of the NFL in 1981 after being inspired by Jim Thorpe. In addition, he received training from Verner Gagne and Brad Rheingans.
On November 10, 1986, Kazmaier debuted his professional wrestling career by defeating David Barbie in a WWF match in Calgary, Alberta. He wrestled in the 1980s for promotions like Continental Championship Wrestling in America and Stampede Wrestling in Canada. In early 1991, he also wrestled for Fighting Network RINGS in Japan.
His biggest national fame came when he debuted in the summer of 1991 in World Championship Wrestling. He earned numerous shots at Lex Luger’s WCW World Heavyweight Championship but didn’t win the title. Kazmaier shortly teamed with Rick Steiner and only lost to The Enforcers in a tournament final for the WCW World Tag Team Championship.
