However, the biggest con with this option is that if you want to use a custom domain name (i.e., not wordpress.com), there are some additional costs involved which isn’t ideal if you’re just starting out or don’t have much budget at first.
A platform owned by Google is like a blogger but has more limitations than its sister site in terms of design options and advertising capabilities. Also doesn’t allow users to monetize their blog unless they upgrade to premium packages through AdSense, which can be expensive, especially since CPC rates are always going down.
This is another platform that’s free to get started. Still, your design options are restricted, which could be a problem for some people who want something more professional-looking rather than just using the default Tumblr template. On the other hand, there aren’t too many coding requirements, so you can still do things like adjust font sizes or spacing without any coding experience.
Medium has probably become my favorite because it’s focused on writing and storytelling, which fits well with what I’m trying to accomplish with this blog post. In addition, it provides lots of great features out of the box, including comments, reading time estimates based on how long an article typically takes someone to read according to studies, recommended posts, newsletters (with subscribers added into MailChimp), and a clean look.
One of the downsides with Medium is that it doesn’t support custom domains, but if you’re looking for simplicity, this could be a great option as well because everything’s already set up for you to get started quickly without much effort.
In conclusion, the best blog platform from an SEO standpoint depends on what your goals are as a blogger or business owner. If search engine traffic is critical to you, I would recommend going with either WordPress or Blogger based on personal preference to avoid unnecessary costs down the road when building out other parts of your website like ecommerce or lead generation pages.
