A well-known actor, Wong rose to prominence after winning several honors for his Broadway debut in M. Butterfly. He dropped his entire name in favor of his initials and received several awards. Wong has also been featured in The Freshman, Father of the Bride, Jurassic Park, Executive Decision, Slappy and the Stinkers, Mulan, and Kingdom Hearts II.
Wong filed an Actor’s Equity complaint in 1990, claiming that the usage of Welsh actor Jonathan Pryce in the Broadway production of Miss Saigon would steal employment away from Asian performers. Despite the union’s objections, Pryce received a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
