In light of the fact that Republican organizations and candidates are increasingly targeting Democrats over the issue of crime, Democratic Senator Maggie Hassan is highlighting her record of support for law enforcement in a new advertisement that is being broadcast over the airwaves in the crucial swing state of New Hampshire.
“As members of the law enforcement community, we always have the welfare of our neighbors in mind. Maggie Hassan is aware of that, and she is aware of it as well,” Sheriff Jeff Stiegler of New Hampshire’s Grafton County says in the advertisement, which was shared with the public on Tuesday. Along with other Republicans, she cast her vote in favor of hiring an additional 100,000 law enforcement personnel.
Hassan has taken the opposite approach to cut funds for the police. Hassan, a former governor, and first-term senator is being heavily targeted by Republicans as she runs for re-election this year. This race is one of a handful across the country that may determine if Republicans win back the Senate majority in November’s midterm elections. Merrimack County Sheriff David Croft says of Hassan, “In every budget as governor, she increased funding for police, and it’s no different with Maggie in the Senate.”
Croft underlines at the end of the advertisement that Hassan’s team says will run statewide and is backed by a seven-figure ad buy that “she takes keeping New Hampshire safe seriously.” Croft says this near the end of the commercial.
