As authorities continue to prevent smugglers from bringing illegal immigrants into the country, Texas law enforcement announced this week that it had stopped an attempt by an Uber driver to smuggle people.
The incident happened on Thursday near Mission, Texas, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), when a DPS trooper pulled over a black Jeep SUV for a traffic infraction.
The five people in the back seat and cargo compartment were discovered to be illegal immigrants from Mexico during a roadside interrogation by the trooper.
The American citizen 22-year-old Uber driver claimed he was chosen by a client to pick them up in a parking lot close to the Rio Grande and asked to drop them off at another parking lot.
