Manchester City advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League for the third time in a row after beating Bayern Munich on 4-1 aggregate in the quarterfinals.
Arsenal leads Manchester City by four points in the Premier League but Pep Guardiola’s side has a game in hand. The two teams face on next week Wednesday in the Premier League at the Etihad, a game dubbed the title decider. Manchester City defeated Arsenal 3-1 early this year.
The Gunner can go up 7 points before the trip on Wednesday when they face Southampton at the Emirate on Friday.
The Citizens are currently competing for three trophies as they are active in the Premier League, face Shieldfield United in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday, and Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claims Manchester City were tired in the last 15 minutes of the game against Bayern Munich and insisted that Arsenal could take advantage and exploit that weakness.
What did Arsene Wenger say?
He told Bein Sport: “Arsenal still has their fate in their hands. If they win the game they will win the championship.
“Like Guardiola said tonight City is tired. I felt really they finished tired in the last 10 or 15 minutes (against Bayern) and maybe Arsenal can take advantage of that because Arsenal plays nothing else, just the championship and they play on Friday night after they have five days to prepare this game.
“Physically they could have an advantage and surprise City that’s what I hope of course but let’s see. I still think we will win it.”
Pep Guardiola has hails his side qualifying for the semi-finals for the third time in a row and also admitted that Manchester City was not at their best.
He said after the game: “I’m so happy – three years in a row in the semi-finals of the Champions League against an incredible team,’ he said. ‘But we struggled in the first half and 4-1 doesn’t show the two games. Fortunately, they missed their chances.
“We defended well and in the second half, we were much better. The only regret is we didn’t have more sequences of passes. You have to have more passes against a team of that quality.
“But apart from that, congratulations to all at Manchester City and thank you to all our fans who came to Munich.”
