The deadline for Michael Dunbar’s sentence was June 15, 2038.
Officials said that an Arizona prisoner who was incarcerated for having sex with a juvenile was declared dead after fighting with another prisoner.
The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) reports that Michael Dunbar, 43, passed away on Monday following the incident.
At the Arizona State Prison Complex-Eyman, Dunbar was being held. Since 1998, he has been in custody.
Following his sentencing out of Maricopa County for sexual behaviour with a child and indecent exposure, he was sent in jail.
The deadline for Dunbar’s sentencing was June 15, 2038.
The ADCRR released a statement saying, “The ADCRR does not tolerate violence and will seek prosecution pending investigation results.”
According to the ADCRR, the county medical examiner’s office is consulted throughout the investigation of every prisoner’s death. Dunbar’s death is now the subject of an initial criminal inquiry by the Office of the Inspector General at ADCRR.
