A private art college in Philadelphia says it has lost its accreditation and is closing its doors after operating for nearly 15 decades due to financial difficulties and enrollment issues.
The University of Arts’ president, Kerry Walk, and the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Judson Aaron, made the shocking announcement in a joint letter on Friday that the arts school will cease operations on June 7. The decision to close the art school was made after the Middle States Commission on Higher Education withdrew its accreditation.
According to the school authorities, the unexpected events were shocking and led to significant and unanticipated expenses.
The Middle States Commission on High Education announced Friday that it was withdrawing the university’s accreditation after the school decided to close down. The commission also listed numerous issues related to the university’s accreditation status.
Kerry Walk and Judson Aaron stated that it is no secret that the school has been struggling with financial troubles. They continue that UArts has been in a fragile financial state, like many other higher learning institutions, with many years of declining revenues due to a decline in enrollment and increasing expenses. The school authority has made necessary efforts to secure the institution’s sustainability.
According to Kerry Walker and Judson Aaron, a town hall meeting for students, staff, and faculties is planned for June 3. According to the school’s authorization, students can be transferred to other schools in Philadelphia, including Drexel University, Temple University, and Moore College of Arts and Design.
The University of the Arts was one of the higher learning institutions committed to providing equal opportunities and nondiscrimination. The institution was also committed to fostering individual and artistic integrity to create the necessary conditions for human creativity to flourish.
The university also contains state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to exploring multifaceted productions. The institution has many centers for various art experiences. It provides opportunities to study outside your major and Philadelphia culture. There is also an online community where students, faculty, staff, and alumni are welcome to share their views on various topics.
The University of the Arts is the third Philadelphia-Philadelphia higher learning institution to close in the last decade. Other institutions that were closed down by the commission include the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Philadelphia.
The institution also accepts everyone, regardless of color, age, marital status, gender, national or ethnic origin, religion, political affiliation, and many other factors.
The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is a private arts college that closed in January after ten years of operation. Similarly, the commission revoked the accreditation of the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 2018. The more extensive college system announced in September of that year that all its remaining schools would also be closed.
