Robert Earl Moore, popularly known as Ahmad Rashad, is a professional football player and sportscaster in the United States. The St. Louis Cardinals selected him fourth overall in the 1972 NFL Draft. Before changing his name in 1973, he was known as Bobby Moore.
He was recruited as a wide receiver by the University of Oregon after high school and played for the Oregon Ducks. As a result, he switched to running back and was chosen to the 1971 College Football All-America Team.

Robert Earl Moore was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1949 and relocated to Tacoma, Washington, with his family. He played high school football there. Rashad graduated from Mount Tahoma High School and played football at the University of Oregon in Eugene. He was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and majored in elementary teaching at Oregon after playing football for the Ducks under head coach Jerry Frei.
Rashad experienced legal troubles in Portland during his junior year of college. In November 1970, he was charged with felony theft. In early 1971, he pled guilty to a lesser offense, a misdemeanor.
Moore switched from Pentecostalism to Islam in 1972. In college, he began to study Islam. Bobby Moore officially changed his name to Ahmad Rashd a year later, which means “admirable one led to truth” in Arabic. He took his surname after his Egyptian-American mentor, scientist Rashad Khalifa, with whom he learned Arabic. In 1990, Khalifa was assassinated.

Career
The St. Louis Cardinals selected Rashad in the 1972 NFL Draft. He later made the UPI All-Rookie Team. Rashad was dealt to the Buffalo Bills after the 1973 season for backup quarterback Dennis Shaw. He was forced to miss the 1975 season due to a knee injury. Rashad trained with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent the following year before being moved to the Minnesota Vikings only days before the season began.
Despite initially failing the team’s physical, he was kept on by quarterback Fran Tarkenton’s advocacy. Rashad had considerable success with the Vikings during his first season, as the squad went on to win the Super Bowl. He maintained his success as a club member in future years, garnering four Pro Bowl selections between 1978 and 1981.
Rashad’s NFL career ended with 495 throws for 6,831 yards and 44 touchdowns. His most memorable reception occurred in a December 1980 game against the Cleveland Browns, when he caught a Hail Mary throw from quarterback Tommy Kramer, leading to a 28-23 win and the Central Division championship. Rashd also holds the record for the most extended play from scrimmage that did not result in a score at 98 yards.

Casey Johnson (1977-2010), Jamie Johnson (b. 1982), and Daisy Johnson (b. 1987) were her three children from her marriage. After Casey died, the couple adopted her daughter, Ava-Monroe Johnson (born August 14, 2006), Sale Johnson’s granddaughter. Rashad and Johnson split up in 2013.
Rashad married Ana Luz Rodriguez-Paz, a psychologist in South Florida, in 2016.
