Texas DPS says the teen was tricked into moving four undocumented people through social media.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is telling parents to keep an eye on their children’s social media accounts after it was said that a teenager was tricked into helping bring four undocumented people into the country.
Lt. Chris Olivarez said that on July 23, a 14-year-old driver led police on a high-speed chase on U.S. 83 in Webb County, which is close to the U.S.-Mexico border. The driver has since been charged with moving people.
During the chase, the dashcam video shows the unnamed teenage boy slamming on the brakes to let four people out of the car and run into the trees on the side of the road.
After dropping off the passenger, the driver kept avoiding the cops. The man was finally caught with the help of a DPS helicopter and the Ohio State Police, the agency said.
The video shows that the police circled the teen’s car on a small road that looks like it’s in a neighborhood. The teen then pulls over. He is then taken out of the car and put on the ground, where he is handcuffed.
He has been charged with moving people, according to the Texas DPS. The officials also caught and turned over to border patrol officers the four undocumented people,.
After the event, the Texas DPS told parents to monitor their kids’ social media use and “make them aware of the bad effects of human smuggling.”
Criminal smuggling groups target young people using deceptive ways to recruit them on social media. This is done to “make it easier to move undocumented people from border communities to larger cities in Texas,” according to a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to Fox News Digital.
