The arrest of a Georgia man accused of shooting a 15-year-old while the youth was “campaigning for Raphael Warnock for the impending run-off election” was made public by the Savannah Police Department on Friday.
On December 6, Warnock will compete against Hershel Walker, a Republican, in the Senate runoff.
According to records, Jimmy Paiz, 43, is currently being detained at the Chatham County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and aggravated violence. The adolescent suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg as a result of the incident on Thursday at about 5:35 p.m.
According to the initial investigation, the teen was supporting Raphael Warnock in the forthcoming run-off election when the incident took place, according to a statement from Savannah Police. The suspect shot the boy as he stood at the front door of one of the homes on Hartridge Street and through the closed door.
There is yet no proof that the shooting was motivated by politics, according to the police.
