A small plane carrying three people crashed shortly after takeoff near Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday morning. The plane crashed near Spencer’s Airpark in Middleburg, Florida, around 9 a.m., according to FAA Media Relations Spokesperson Maria Njoku.

Authorities had not issued an official statement regarding casualties as of 11:30 a.m., but the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed multiple fatalities. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the plane crashed in a wooded area in Clay County.
“The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide additional updates,” Njoku said.
