Late Saturday morning, a devastating truck fire involving a tanker caused havoc on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
At least one vehicle caught fire on Interstate 476 soon before 11 a.m., closing all lanes between Mid-County and Lansdale.
Images and videos on social media show a big cloud of black smoke rising from the scene and blanketing the highway with debris.
Authorities have yet to disclose any official information regarding injuries, the number of automobiles involved, or the source of the fire, although there is concern that numerous individuals were injured.

At 12:01 p.m., the Official PA Turnpike X account tweeted that firefighters are still using water and foam to put out the fire.
“They are unable to allow traffic north due to damage and fire suppression,” PA Turnpike Alerts tweeted. “Once safe, they will begin u-turning the trapped queue; there is no timeframe for this to occur yet.”

The Pennsylvania Turnpike X account has a continual thread concerning travel alerts, lane closures, and detours, with the most recent item made around 11:39 a.m. asking drivers caught on the highway to stay in their vehicles.
“Once crews are able to bring the active scene under control, Turnpike Maintenance crews will be working to get the trapped queue removed,” PA Turnpike Alerts stated in an X post.

At 12:00, PA Turnpike Alerts reported that firefighters were still using water and foam to put out the incident.
