Jacinto Remigo, 73, fell onto building scaffolding from the window of his sixth-floor flat.
After escaping a house invasion over the weekend by jumping out of a window, an elderly man from New York City plunged to his death.
At around 4:40 a.m. on Saturday, three robbers broke into an apartment in Washington Heights, close to 161st Street and Broadway. The New York Post and NBC 4 reported that one suspect had entered through a window and mounted a fire escape before allowing the two others to enter.
After tying up a 40-year-old male, the robbers reportedly took $200 in cash and a gold necklace worth around $8,000, according to New York City police.
According to authorities, Jacinto Remigo, 73, the man’s father, fell from the sixth-floor apartment window onto construction scaffolding during the break-in, as reported by NBC 4.
After being taken to Harlem Hospital, Remigo passed away from his wounds.
The way he fell from the apartment is still being looked at by the police.
“I watched Remigo climb out of the window and fall after reaching a small ledge to reach another window and being stopped by an air conditioner,” Heriberto Garcia, the victim’s friend and neighbour, told NBC 4.
As of Monday morning, details of the suspects have not been made public, and police are still looking for them.
