A six-year-old Texas child was killed by lightning as he and his father walked home from school. His father had previously been killed by the same lightning bolt.
Grayson Boggs passed away on Friday, weeks after his father, 34-year-old Matthew Boggs, was struck and killed by lightning.
The bolt of lightning struck on May 15, around 5 p.m., shortly after Grayson and his 11-year-old sibling Elijah were dropped off at school in Valley Mills by bus.
Mr. Boggs and his sons were strolling home and approaching their driveway when Elijah took a left turn and Grayson and his father, who were holding hands, took a right.
Then, Mr. Boggs was struck by lightning, which traveled to Grayson because they held hands.
According to Fox Weather, the impact of the lightning strike caused them to lose their shoes, and they landed face-down on the driveway.
When family members turned over Mr. Boggs’ corpse, he was already blue. Grayson began CPR while a neighbor began life-saving measures on his father, but Mr. Boggs passed away.
Grayson has been contending for his life for the past four weeks at Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple, Texas. He was on a ventilator and experiencing convulsions. Tuesday, doctors informed Grayson’s family that his condition would not improve, and he was removed from his ventilator.
Friday at 5:05 p.m., according to a GoFundMe page created by a cousin, the youngster passed away.
As of Sunday morning, more than $87,000 had been raised for funeral expenses through the fundraiser.
