Protect your furniture from moisture

The presence of moisture in wooden furniture attracts termites and therefore to protect your furniture from termites, always ensure that it’s not moist. Woodend furniture does not have to be cleaned with water or a liquid cleaner. Normal dry dusting or using a microfiber cloth to dry clean is just enough.

If your house has a seepage problem, especially in the rainy season, solve the problem by sun drying. Termites hate sunlight because they cannot survive in it. Put your wooden furniture outside in scorching sunlight on a summer day so that the moisture in it will evaporate leaving the termites dead.

Use aloe vera

Did you know that you can use aloe vera to protect your wooden furniture from termites? Simply crush and aloe vera until it releases its gel. Once you have extracted the gel, wipe your wooden furniture with it. Basically, aloe vera develops a barrier that cannot be crossed by termites.

Wood polishing

There are various wood polishes you can purchase from the market that can protect your furniture from termites. It is important to polish your wood furniture as part of regular maintenance. Polishing it all alone could be difficult. You can employ a carpenter to get all your furniture polished for a couple of days. This is an effective way of keeping termites away from your furniture.

Use good-quality plywood

When looking for plywood, always choose the boiling water-resistant (BWR) plywood to use for making furniture. This type of plywood is treated chemically and possesses superior qualities such as resistance to fire, moisture, and termites. It is made out of synthetic resins that form a strong bonding in every layer of the plywood. This helps to enhance its durability and resistance to damage.

There are certain brands of plywood that are termite-proof. To enhance the protection of your wooden surfaces, you can use them as liners for your cabinets’ insiders – every extra layer will enhance the furniture’s termite resistance.

Prevent contact with soil

Your wooden furniture should not come into contact with soil. Avoid placing your wooden furniture on your garden directly or into contact with any type of soil. When furniture comes into direct contact with soil, it allows termites to bore their way straight into it.

Regular pest control

The most effective way of dealing with termites is to have pest control conducted at your house or business premises. You need to have your pest control conducted regularly after two or three years. Pest control service comes in handy when you have a termite infestation because they use strong, effective solutions and specialized treatments to eradicate them. This is a great idea as it is a preventive measure.

Other remedies that can prevent termites from damaging your wooden furniture include:

  • Make a carboard trap by stacking several wet cardboard strips on top of each other in the affected area. This is just a temporary solution and can only reduce the number of termites.
  • Use boric acid to kill or control the termites.
