According to the USGS, an earthquake with a 5.5 magnitude occurred on Sunday off the coast of Northern California.
According to USGS, the earthquake was reported on Sunday at roughly 11:45 a.m.. It was found 74 miles southwest of Eureka and 63 miles west of Petrolia.
The Pacific Ocean served as the earthquake’s epicenter. According to authorities, the earthquake was about 1.3 miles deep.
The magnitude of the earthquake, 6.8 on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale, according to USGS ShakeMap, was not felt on land; Petrolia had a 3.7 magnitude earthquake.
Anything between 6 and 7 on the Modified Mercalli strength Scale, a scale used to gauge earthquake strength, is regarded as “strong.”
Nearly everyone knows earthquakes with an intensity of 6 or higher, and some damage is almost always a given. The intensity of the earthquake did not register as strongly at the coast because it was far from land.
After the earthquake was registered, there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
