Late on Wednesday night in Bristol, Connecticut, there was an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the deaths of two police officers and the serious injury of another.
The three cops were all Bristol Police Department employees. In a press conference on Thursday morning, Bristol Police Chief Brian Gould named the deceased policemen as Sergeant Dustin Demonte, 35, and Deputy Alex Hamzy, 34.
Laura, Demonte’s wife, and their two children are left behind. In a few months, Demonte and his wife would have their third kid. Katie, Hamzy’s wife, is still alive.
Alec Iurato, the third officer, underwent surgery for a severe gunshot wound and is currently recovering in the hospital.
Ned Lamont, the Democratic governor of Connecticut, gave the order early on Thursday to lower the national and state flags all around the state.
“This is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks that law enforcement personnel take on a daily basis to save our family and neighbors from a variety of perils. According to a statement from Lamont, “These policemen are heroes and will always be recognized for the great service they gave to their community and their state. “
